About the CQIF Program

What is CQIF?

CQIF stands for “Certified Qualification in Islamic Finance”, the highest qualification a person could pursue from IBFIM’s Islamic Finance Qualifications Framework and Progression Route after having fulfilled certain criteria set by IBFIM.

A complete CQIF qualification consists of the core level, Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (AQIF), the intermediate level; Intermediate Qualification in Islamic Finance (IQIF) and the advanced and highest level; CQIF.

What is IBFIM's Islamic Finance Qualifications Framework & Progression Route?

It consist of three levels, namely core, intermediate and advanced level. At the end of each level, an assessment will be conducted to evaluate the candidate’s understanding and ability to relate the knowledge gained to practice.

The Framework is unique. One does not intentionally register for each Qualification. Instead, one will attend any of the modules at his/her own pace. Upon fulfilling the requirements of each qualification, he/she will register for an assessment to receive the respective Qualification and IBFIM’s Membership.

The Framework is designed to meet the industry’s needs in terms of:

  1. Flexibility in learning (without pre-set duration);
  2. Progression to a higher level;
  3. Recognized and accredited certifications; and
  4. Bridging industry-university qualifications.

The capstone certification, CQIF, offers specializations in Islamic Banking, Takaful and Islamic Capital Market.

What is AQIF?

AQIF stands for “Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance”, the step 1 (core) towards CQIF qualification. It certifies knowledge of Shariah law and its application, ethics and Islamic finance architecture. In total, there are five (5) modules under AQIF and all modules are now available online at IBFIM Online. Click here for more info.

What is IQIF?

IQIF stands for “Intermediate Qualification in Islamic Finance”, the step 2 (intermediate) towards CQIF qualification. It involves intermediate qualification, which covers about 8 to10 modules in the domain of Islamic Banking, Takaful and Islamic Capital Market.

Modules for IQIF are now available in Islamic Banking, Takaful and Islamic Capital Market at IBFIM Online. Click here for more info.

What is CQIF?

CQIF stands for “Certified Qualification in Islamic Finance”, the step 3 (advanced) towards CQIF qualification. While providing a more comprehensive coverage of the previous subjects, it challenges a person’s knowledge, work experience and capabilities of each discipline in Islamic finance.

Do I have to take the modules in sequence?

No, it is not necessary to take the modules according to its sequence or levels. You can enroll any of the modules individually at your convenience.

Instead of registering for individual modules , can I register a qualification, say AQIF for the whole 5 modules?

Yes, you can register them as a package. In fact, it is more cost-saving when you register for a package.

Is CQIF equivalent to bachelor’s degree?

We do not equate CQIF with any academic programs such as diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree and PhD because CQIF is an industry professional qualification. In addition, CQIF is designed for practitioners within Islamic finance practice.
